For the past few days things have been going pretty good and the conversations even though they were quick, were thorough. Many of our team members were having really great conversations and engaging those who claim to be Christian, but realized they were not.

One great open door was started by our team member, Katie. She had started a conversation with a very nice couple named Angel and Tanisha, with little one in stroller. Katie with concerned look called me over and I was excited to join. After Katie and Tanisha talked sitting down, I was able to focus on Angel. Through what he was saying, he was getting information from all different sources, but not the Bible — at least in context and as a whole. He fired many different questions and concerns all at once; some of which were:
- Why did God kill many animals to prove a point and for His worship in the Old Testament?
- What if Satan was telling Eve the truth, that their eyes would be opened to more possibilities and that God was lying to them?
- Why did God tell Moses to kill his son to prove a point [he had Moses and Abraham confused originally]?
- Who is to say that the Bible is the only correct book and that there is some truth in all religions and religious texts?
- What if God is just a higher consciousness and that He or She lives in each and every person and talks to us through our conscious?
- Who created God? How could He exist without ever being created?
I understood exactly where he was coming from. As one who thought God was an alien and misunderstanding the Bible, I showed him some things in the Bible that were important to his misunderstanding. His major hang-up was that Angel didn’t think God’s Word was inerrant, trustworthy, and reliable. There were many verses I took him to, but the few that I thought were necessary were:
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV)
This means that God’s Word is breathed out of Himself and teaches us what is right, what is wrong, how to get right, and how to stay right. This sums up the learning process in full.
“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. “(Romans 15:4 NKJV)
Our hope comes through God’s Word, which is not only true, but our very life and comfort. It gives us hope in dark times, but also hope of a life to come that we cannot see.
“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1:2-4 NKJV)
God has given us all things in His Word that pertain to life and how to stay on the right path. We need no other book. It is trustworthy.
There were so many other verses and scripture that I shared with Angel that pertained to his problems with the Text. But as I looked up and away from the conversation, Katie was holding Angel’s daughter and feeding her while sharing the gospel to Tanisha. Wow…God always gives us amazing conversations and uses us to love others. I gave him my card, a few booklets that I thought would be helpful, and left on a good note. I pray that Angel really does find the truth that he is seeking according to God’s Word found in the Bible so that he can be the godly man and leader of his family he needs to be.
