This past June, I was blessed to be a part of the 2025 Living Waters Ambassador’s Academy in California, an experience that deeply enriched my faith and understanding of the “Great Commission”. Throughout the week, we had some amazing teaching and fellowship with like-minded believers coming together to share the gospel to the lost. We also participated in impactful outreach efforts, where we had great conversations with the lost in Huntington Beach and Santa Monica Pier, sharing the only message of hope of Jesus Christ.
One of the last lessons and most impactful for me the talk: “Multiplying Evangelism Through Making Disciples,” by Cory McKenna of The Cross Current (TCC). As he spoke, I was glued to his every word and came away with great hope for evangelists like myself. He emphasized the importance of not doing ministry alone which can lead to cynicism and pride; but becoming part of a team with other evangelists, those who we are discipling, and the leadership and accountability of a local church. I came away from that lesson with hope and encouragement that I am not alone, but a band of brothers and sisters who feel equally alone in churches that put evangelism last on the list of importance. So, follow me as we dive into this most underrated ministry.
Personal One-On-One Mentorship
When I got home I dove into this ministry and wanted to learn even more about it. It’s a one-stop-shop of self care for the evangelist who is on the front lines. This ministry is different than Living Waters in that TCC focuses on one-on-one discipleship as Equipping Evangelists take their mentors on the street to do conversational witnessing in the same approach I learned through my mentor, Tony Didlo. Through local missions, equipping core leaders and entire churches, it reaches outside the walls of the congregation and into the community and country for the gospel. It accomplises this through different specialized programs under the TCC unbrella.
Equipping Evangelists Training Network (EETN)
The Equipping Evangelists Training Network (EETN) is the fellowship network of equipping evangelists training churches and Christians for conversational evangelism. EETN not only puts Christians who want to be discipled with those able to disciple, but encourages those who feel alone in the effort with their home churches. I encourage you to watch the video on the website and listen to Cory’s heart in why he created this training network of faithful Christians needing help. You listen to the heart of those who felt stuck and how EETN helped them be the ambassadors of the gospel they were made to be. At the bottom of the EETN page, you have the option of applying as a trainier of evangelism, and also apply to be a trainee.
Equipping Evangelists
Like EETN, Equpping Evangelists (EE), is a ministry of TCC equipping evangelists in their own churches to equip their own saints for the work of Gospel ministry together (Ephesians 4:11-12). This is a local missions ministry that equips the church by example to normalize evangelism: which has become a dirty word over the years, by onsite teaching and offsite training by sharing the gospel in all their personal and community relationships. Watch the video on the page to find out more.
Biblical Conversations Curriculum
Biblical Conversations Curriculum (BCC) is an online or onsite course that will equip average Christians of all ages to simply open Scripture and confidently advance and give a defense for the gospel in a culturally relevant conversation about Christ.
These three courses, modeled after the apostle Paul, teaches the doctrine and practice of evangelism, apologetics, and the practice of citizenship to know our freedom and rights as we move through a gospel conversation.
Extreme GO Teams Missions
A Gospel Outreach (GO) Team is any small group of Christ-followers commissioned from your church to go and share the gospel, use your God-given spiritual gifts, and do good works together as you share the gospel. TCC provides personal field training and mentoring of leaders to lead GO Teams in your own community.
Other Resources
Within TCC, it offers also TCC TV, a plethora of YouTube videos geared to help the evangelist along if he or she is not enrolled in any of The Cross Current’s curriculum, free of charge, and not to mention The Cross Current Podcast as well.
The Goal of The Cross Current
The goal of The Cross Current is to work with leaders of local churches to multiply gospel ministry in and through the church. They help church leaders understand what is gospel health and the critical categories that lead to healthy gospel churches. To discern, develop, and disciple equipping evangelists that God has called and gifted to equip the saints for the work of the ministry. It is not only about knowlege, but obedience, and to submit to Christ as Lord.
The culture is screaming for answers, and we have that hope in Christ which they desperately need. The church is screaming for help to equip those to go out into all the world and give them the hope of the gospel. Consider the resources of The Cross Current of Canada, and see what they have to offer to get equipped, motivated, encouraged, and prepared to reach this world for Jesus Christ.
