Pre-Parade Training
This year, I will be teaching through a modified version of Answers in Genesis’ Gospel Reset: Sharing the Gospel to a Culture That Has Lost its Foundation. Christian values and tradition are no longer the norm in the United States. Even terms that were once common knowledge are unheard of by many, especially millennials, and those of Generation Z. The once Christianized Western nations are rapidly becoming “Acts 17” cultures. They are losing their biblical foundation and have more in common with the pagan Athenians of Acts 17 than the Jews of Acts 2.
We want to impact the world with the saving gospel message. If we truly want to reach today’s people with the good news of salvation, we must reconsider how we approach evangelism. We as evangelists need to present the gospel biblically by starting at the beginning the way God did in the book of Genesis.
The gospel hasn’t changed, but the culture has. We will go over:
- Why past evangelism methods don’t work.
- Consider a new way to share the gospel in today’s world.
- What the gospel is, and what it is not.
- Go through the 7 C’s of History and how to use them in a conversation.
Parade Evangelism
After the in-class training, we will be gathering out tracts and gear to go out onto the streets of downtown Des Moines to share our faith to the lost during the St. Patrick’s Day parade. We will meet at the parade route about an hour before it begins. Starting with prayer we will then break off into small teams to distribute tracts and share the gospel ahead of the parade.
This is a very easy distribution and the event has become more family-friendly than ever before. Even if you’ve never done this before, you will be paired with a leader and someone who has done this before. Look the person in the eyes, extend the tract and say, “Did you get one of these?” or “Happy St. Patrick’s Day!” People love getting them and hardly ever turned down. Just watch the video on the original post of Tony Ramsek and how he evangelizes the lost in parades.
