It’s that time of year again when you’re asking your man for a Christmas gift list, and all you get in return are grunts and vague mumblings. Let’s face it—men often don’t know what they want until they see it. Last year’s articles, Impressive Gifts for Men, and Inexpensive Gifts for Men, were great hits where I explored various gift ideas for the special guy in your life. From knives and chopsticks, to more meaningful ones like a custom made pen, vintage watch repair, and filling an ammo box instead of the traditional stocking of small but cool items. This year I wanted to discuss some cool items I personally have on my radar that you could give your man that won’t break the bank.

Dot. Cards, Inc.

Working the IowaGO! Creation Booth during the Iowa State Fair, I got to talk with many people from all areas of life. I had some great conversations and was prepared with Pens and Wrenches buisiness cards in case someone wanted to continue the conversation. Several of those conversations led me to Dot. They have the same card in thick steel, called dot.metal, which is more durable, which sells for $40 each.

Maybe you don’t like carying an actual card on your person because you are afraid to lose it. No sweat. You can order a dot sticker that can be easily applied to your cell phone case or wallet. I am personally considering the dot.band: a stylish bracelet crafted from premium silicone that provides hands free way to connect in any situation. Dodowin Contour Guage Tool

If your man likes working with wood, installing flooring, or is a DIY guy, he will love this tool or something similar to it. The Dodowin Contour Guage is a great addition to the tools he has.

It’s tough to beat a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Amazon. With this tool he can measure shapes and make cuts with the greatest of ease, especially for those hard-to-measure applications. This is great for installing vinyl flooring, tile, shelving, and so much more. It’s difficult to describe the value of this tool, but watch the video below to see its many applications.

Tire Inflator

Ask yourself, “What is the most frustrating thing about owning a car?” Chances are, besides having to stand outside in the dead of winter to refuel, it is looking for an air pump to fill your tires. But not only finding one, but finding one that works, and doesn’t break the bank. In Iowa, most of them are free as opposed to New Jersey where none of them are free. Some places it could cost well over $4.00 to fill all four tires at once. It’s insane. And this is not limited to cars, but also motorcycles, bicycles, pool floaties, and any other thing that needs air.

It’s nice to have an air pump handy. It saves time, stress free, and is actually cost-effective that will save you money down the road. But what kind should you get? I don’t have a difinitive answer to that, but here are some things to consider:

Is this for home use or on the road?
Is this for emergencies or regular use?
How large are your tires and the psi needed?
Who is using it? Is it easy to use, or does it require a manual?

There are many different air pumps to choose from. Here are some that has gotten some high ratings, and in no particular order:

Personally, I am leaning towards the AstroAI one because of it’s ruggedness, good quality, and a well-known company in the area of air compressors. Plus dual motors, rugged durability, able to fill up to 150psi, and dual power source (12vdc or 110vac) make it the all around good choice for my needs.

Kobalt Tool Set

A few years ago I purchased the 227-pc standard (SAE) and Metric chrome mechanics tool set with hard case. Although the case is not very sturdy and has issues, the tools themselves are very well made and lasted much longer than Craftsman in the past.

If he already has a large mechanics toolbox, Lowe’s does carry a 300-pc set for $249, and smaller sets for personal, home, and specific use. Whatever your need, you can find Kobalt exclusively at Lowe’s Hardware.

When you think of Zippo, what comes to mind?
