4. Do Over

Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every intent of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the LORD said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”

Genesis 6:5-7 NKJV

God created a perfect world in six literal days, but Adam and his wife disobeyed God’s command not to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and brought sin and death not only to themselves, but to the entire world for all time (Romans 5:12).

As time went on, the world became more advanced — all the more increasing their propensity to sin and do evil in the sight of the Lord. This grieved the Lord so much that He was determined to destroy everything in the world. On all the earth there was only one righteous man who walked with God; his name was Noah (Genesis 6:8-9).

And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. “Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. … “And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which [is] the breath of life; everything that [is] on the earth shall die. “But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark–you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. “And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every [sort] into the ark, to keep [them] alive with you; they shall be male and female. … Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

Genesis 6:13-14, 17-19, 22 NKJV

It took between 55 and 75 years for Noah and those helping him, to build the ark according to the LORD’S instructions; all the while warning those around them about God’s wrath which was to come in the form of a flood. Nobody but him and his family believed. After this two of every kind of animal entered the ark and the Lord caused it to rain and the fountains below the earth to give up its water. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. After 150 days, the earth was completely covered with water. The only survivors were 8 human beings and animals that were on the ark. Everything else was destroyed as God said it would be.

Roughly 370 days since the rain started, the rain receded and the ark landed on top of Mr. Ararat and the earth was dry and God commanded Noah and his family to come out.

After leaving the safety of the ship that carried them above the destruction, Noah built an altar to the Lord, sacrificing each one of the clean animals. God promised never to flood the entire earth again, giving us to this day a sign of that promise in the form of a rainbow. The earth was now cleansed with a fresh start to worship and serve the Lord.
